☀️Legal docs are like SPF for your biz

by | Feb 6, 2025 | DIY Legal Templates

While it’s a wintry February here in Sedona and we do get snow, I love that we get so much sunshine.☀️ (278 days per year actually!)

Speaking of sunshine…

My client Natalia is a dermatologist. She runs a thriving private dermatology practice where she does skin checks and helps patients heal from psoriasis.

She’s also passionate about holistic skincare. She firmly believes that your outside “glow” starts on the inside. (I’m trained as a health coach, so I believe that too!)

She wanted to start a separate health coaching business to help people learn the connection between what they eat and the health of their skin.

She said she was creating a 1-on-1 coaching program, starting a new website, and wanted to post daily skin tips on Instagram.

(BTW, if you’re a licensed practitioner too, and not clear on how to legally set up a separate coaching practice, comment below to reach out to my team – we’re happy to help.)

Natalia didn’t know which legal docs she needed.

Her doctor friend told her she needed to use an “informed consent form.”
Coaches in a Facebook group told her to use a “client agreement.”
She didn’t know which form to use so she reached out to me.

Luckily Natalia came to me BEFORE she launched her coaching business to make sure she used the right documents. (Smart thinking, Natalia!). 🎉

She said, “I want to use the right document because legal docs are like the SPF for my biz. They’ll keep me protected, so I can shine without getting burned.”

And I said “Yes! That’s exactly it!”

I told her that she should NOT use an “informed consent form” as a coach – but rather a “Client Agreement”.

Informed Consent forms are only for licensed medical practitioners to use when working with patients to seek their consent to receive medical treatment.

Coaches use “agreements” (also called “contracts”)… NOT “consent forms”.

As for the legal documents for her biz….

I told her that I had a one-stop-shop bundle of the 5 DIY legal templates that would help her get legally covered for 1-on-1 coaching, her website and for social media. She was thrilled to hit “add to cart!”…
