LLC v. S-Corp? What’s the difference? Which one do you need?
Wondering if it’s time to step up your biz game and “go pro” with an LLC or S-Corp?
Maybe this is the sign you need because your third eye chakra and intuition’s nudging you that it’s time to get serious as a biz owner.
Or maybe you’re not sure what an LLC or S-Corp even is.
Or maybe you’re somewhere in between.
Wherever you are, no worries. We’re here to help.
Here’s the bottom line:
- Both LLCs and S-Corps are strong legal shields.
- LLC = easiest biz entity.
- S-Corp = helpful as tax strategy.
🤔 What’s an LLC?
An LLC (Limited Liability Company) is the easiest business entity to form to protect your assets.
Without it, there’s no legal separation between you and your business.
This means that if someone sues your biz, your personal assets (like your home or savings account) could be at risk.
An LLC creates a legal shield that separates your business income from your personal assets.
✨ That’s the “limited liability” part – it covers your buns. 😉
It also makes you more professional to clients, banks, and potential collaborators.
You might want to form an LLC if:
✅ You’ve made $50K or more in your business.
✅ You have personal or biz assets to protect.
✅ You’re ready to step up professionally.
✅ You want to feel grounded, safe, and secure as your biz grows.
🤔 What’s an S-Corp?
An S-Corp (S Corporation) is a different type of corporate entity but one that often comes with tax savings when you elect S-Corp status.
It allows you to split your income between salary and profit, which could reduce your self-employment taxes and save you money… once your biz revenue is high enough (typically this is around $100k in gross income).
Wondering if an S-corp is right for you?
Check out Gusto’s nifty little S-corp calculator here.
(Note: I use Gusto in my own biz for running payroll. It’s a great service. My accountant can also access it to prepare for paying my taxes. If you need a payroll company, check out Gusto right here. I’m a proud affiliate. Right now they give you a $100 VISA gift card after you run your first payroll, so I had to share it!)
Legal steps like forming an LLC or electing S-Corp status aren’t just smart. They’re also empowering. They help you expand with confidence and alignment.
And, energetically, having an LLC or S-Corp is like a container for your business energy. When it’s solid, you can expand with more confidence and ease in biz.
And because an LLC or S-Corp actually legally separates you from your business entity, you can keep your personal and business energy separate too, so your business doesn’t energetically overrun your life. #keepemseparated
