the missing piece in most financial advice
If you could go back in time and give your younger self one piece of financial advice… what would it be?
Most people say…
“I’d stick to my budget more.”
“I wouldn’t overspend so much.” or “I penny-pinch. I would spend more.”
“I’d buy the ‘right’ stock.” (Netflix. Apple. Bitcoin when it was worth pennies.)
And I get it… all of that sounds pretty appealing. 💸
But the older I get, the more I realize that this isn’t the advice that matters most.
Based on what I know now, this is what I’d tell my younger self:
➡️ “It’s not just about how to make more money. It’s learning how to build a relationship with money so it can come in, stay, and grow.” ⬅️
Earning money and stewarding money are two very different skills.
This is exactly why my friend and mentor, Kate Northrup’s work resonated so deeply with me.
(Here’s Kate and me in February at her Relaxed Money Live event in Nashville. I look a little weary – it was my first event post-knee surgery!)
Inside Kate’s free Good With Money workshop, she talks about the internal structural environment that determines how money flows in your life.
When that ecosystem is strong, really beautiful things happen:
- Money starts to feel more organized… instead of overwhelming.
- Your decisions become clearer.
- The life you’re building starts to feel supported by your finances.
If this concept resonates with you and you want to know more, I’d love for you to join me for Kate’s free workshop series.

(It begins next week!)
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about money, it’s this:
The goal is to create a life where money supports you.
And that’s exactly what Kate teaches so beautifully.
Hope to see you there!
If money has ever felt stressful, confusing, or heavy… I hope you’ll join Kate Northrup’s Good With Money workshop here (it’s free!).
I’ll earn a commission for any purchases you make through my link, but know that I wouldn’t recommend Kate or her offerings if I didn’t truly believe in her work. Promise!
