What I’ve learned in 2025…✨

by | Dec 29, 2025 | Business-Building Resources

Before we turn the page to a brand-new year, I wanted to pop into your inbox one last time in 2025 and share a little love note from me to you.

These final days of the year always feel reflective.

I don’t know about you, but 2025 has been a LOT. (Too much!)

In numerology, 2025 is a 9 year which represents the end of a cycle. Completion. Transformation and growth.

It certainly has been for me.

Here are a couple of highlights:

Highlight #1: 🛏️ 2 Big Surgeries!

My year was bookended by surgeries. Not my fave kinds of bookends, for sure!

First, in January, I broke my right arm in 3 places by slipping on my hardwood floor in my house. (I know, right?!)

Then I tore my ACL and meniscus in my right knee while on vacation in Maine this summer. I had ACL replacement surgery in November. (Would you believe that I had this same ACL surgery on the same knee back in 2014? Imagine how shocked I was that I had to do it again 11 years later!)

I’m happy to share that my arm is as good as new – and my knee recovery is going beautifully…slow and steady, with lots of gratitude for all your well-wishes along the way (plus good doctors, physical therapy, and of course, continuous icing of my knee with this amazing ice machine. 😉)

I haven’t shared it publicly but, in the past year and a half, my husband ALSO had 5 (yes 5!) surgeries on his eyes – for a detached retina and cataracts – so 2025 has been quite a doozy with surgeries for both of us!

What I learned:

According to Louise Hay who wrote “You Can Heal Your Life”, injuries to forearms mean that you’re having difficulty holding the experiences of your life. Very true for me!

At that time, my husband couldn’t drive because of his eye surgeries so I had been driving my husband everywhere for 4 months – it was a LOT on top of everything else.

So I learned to change my expectations to expect LESS, slow down a bit, and ask for more help. All good lessons for sure!

On the other hand, knee issues, according to Louise Hay, mean that your life is going in one direction and you’re resisting the change. Also true for me.

Back around 2014, I had hired my teammate Heather as my right-hand person… and this summer, after 11 years, she was ready to move in a new direction so she left our team. Naturally, part of me was fearful of losing her. While I have an incredible team now – Blue, Katelyn, Michelle, Katie and Katrina – change is always hard.

So it took me a minute to adjust to the loss of Heather and her important contributions to our company over the past decade – and my knee took the brunt of it.

What I learned was to be patient with the transition – more patient than I wanted to be – and to lean on my team for support.

The team rose to the occasion more than I could have ever imagined and I am having so much fun watching them shine and grow and stretch. It’s been amazing to experience.

Highlight #2: 🌵 I moved!

Just 6 days before my knee surgery in November, we moved to Oro Valley – a northern suburb of Tucson.

We had put our house on the market and much to our surprise, it sold in just 2 days! The new buyers wanted to close in just 3 weeks so we hustled to ready the house and move with pretty short notice.

Because I already had a great relationship with my knee surgeon (he was the brother of my arm surgeon, no less!), I didn’t want to change the date of the surgery or find a new surgeon.

So we moved 4 hours away to our new city, unpacked as many boxes as we could before surgery and resumed unpacking a few weeks later. I don’t recommend moving this way because it’s taken a while to feel settled, but it was the best option for us considering our house had sold so quickly.

We loved living in Sedona, looking up at the red rocks from almost every room of our house. We had great neighbors and made wonderful friends. But we realized that, for us, Sedona was a better city to visit than to live.

We wanted to be closer to shopping and doctors and live in a larger community with more full-time residents (many friends in Sedona only live there part time) but also be close to beautiful mountains in the desert with great hiking + 160 miles of biking trails, so we landed in Oro Valley close to the Santa Catalina Mountains.

Oro Valley is already feeling like the ideal place for this next chapter of life. It’s not as hot as Tucson because it’s at 2500 feet of elevation and we can be both in the city AND the mountains in 5 minutes. We really like it so far.

What we learned:

We thought we were going to “marry” Sedona and live there indefinitely, but we realized that we just needed to “date”. 😄

Scott and I listened to our intuition and logically weighed the pros and cons about what we wanted from a community, and once we had a clear “yes” that we needed to shift environments, it all fell into our lap.

Our house sold for only $20k under the asking price. There were only 2 small things to address with the inspection. We found a great – and reasonable – moving company. We found a place to live in Oro Valley after just two scouting visits. The new owners of our Sedona house were wonderful through the transition (and without ever meeting us even invited us to be their guests in their box seats at the Army-Navy football game in Baltimore – which we had to decline because of my knee surgery!) We felt very lucky and grateful.

What we learned was to adapt on the fly, trust our guts, and stay in the moment – all the while counting our blessings.

Needless to say, it’s been quite a year. We’re ready for the end of our surgeries and the beginning of life in a new community.
