What is Copyright - and why do you need it?

A Copyright is a legal protection under US Copyright law that gives exclusive ownership rights to your original creative work for 70 years plus the lifetime of the author.

When you register your Copyright, you’re saying: “I made this. I own this. This is my original creation.”

To Copyright your work, it must be:

  • Publicly shared—not just saved on your computer.
  • Outwardly expressed (written, recorded, filmed, created.) - not just in your imagination.
  • Final version - not just in “draft” form or still evolving.

When you Copyright, you receive:

  • Exclusive rights to use, sell, distribute, and license your original work.
  • Legal standing to sue in federal court and claim statutory damages.
  • Proof of ownership to have evidence if someone steals or copies your work.
  • Customs protection to stop bootlegs from entering the U.S.
  • Strong boundaries to honor your work in ways aligned with your crown chakra.

Legal Love™ Tip: Copyright isn’t just legal protection—it’s an energetic “claiming” of your work as your unique creation and gives you peace of mind knowing your work is officially recognized by the US Copyright Office.

How does it work?

  • Receive an email from us with instructions.
  • Complete the Prep Sheet.
  • I prepare your Copyright Application and submit it.
  • Once it’s been filed, 3-6 months to process by the US Copyright Office. Your Copyright Application is submitted within 7 days after you provide the info, if not sooner.
  • I correspond back and forth with the US Copyright Office as needed.
  • If it’s approved, you receive your registered Copyright.

Can I do it myself?

No, Copyright registration on your own is not recommended. Dealing with government filings can be tricky.

I’ve worked with Copyright for over 10 years AND I have an IP attorney on my team with 25+ years of Copyright experience… so that should tell you something.

Here are common mistakes doing it on your own leading to denials:

  • Choosing the wrong Copyright classification.
  • Not filling out authorship correctly, especially if multiple authors or other contributors.
  • Not submitting your original work in the right format. (They are picky!)
  • Writing your Copyright Application incorrectly.

You don’t know what you don’t know.

Don’t take that risk.
