Keep copycats away from your website
So many entrepreneurs worry that someone will come along and rip them off and copy their websites.
I can’t tell you how many times people e-mail me and tell me that someone copied their sales page, home page – even their about page! (Can you even believe that? NUTS!)
If you’re a biz owner, your website is the lifeblood of your business. It’s the most powerful place where you show the world who you are, what you believe, what services or products you offer, and how you can serve others to make their life or their business better.
It’s like your heart is infused into the webpages. And when someone comes along and tries to COPY who you are and what you stand for – well, it can make the smoke come out of your ears!
Let me tell you what happened to Susie.
Susie (not her real name – cause privacy, natch!) was sitting at her computer drinking a cup of Bulletproof hot chocolate and she saw a post on Facebook that sounded a LOT like how Susie talks about her OWN work. She clicked on that person’s website and her eyes widened as she saw that this other gal had lifted Susie’s EXACT text right off of the page.
Susie’s heart started beating faster and she almost spit out the hot chocolate she was drinking. She felt like she was being stabbed in the heart! Susie could feel the tears welling – and an anger in the pit of her stomach that she didn’t even know existed.
It’s a horrible, maddening, vulnerable feeling when you see someone else profiting from your work without your permission.
Sadly, it happens all the time.
Let me be clear, when someone copies or swipes your stuff, it’s stealing.
Plain and simple. A Copycat may not even intend to take something of yours, but, nevertheless, when someone copies your text right or images off of your website, they’ve stolen your work.
