Do your business policies reflect your core values?

It might not surprise you to know that as the leader of your business, you get to create your own business policies.

You decide how you want to handle payments, scheduling, cancellations and more.

These business policies should be outlined in your LEGAL contracts and documents like your Client Agreement for your 1-on-1 clients or a Terms of Use for your online courses or group programs or a Joint Venture Agreement with joint venture partners.

(Psst! Did you know I have over 30 DIY Legal Templates to help you outline ALL of your business policies? I know – that sounds like a LOT…you don’t need ALL of them, but you likely need SOME of them to run your biz.)

I’m taking a stand and saying that your business policies and legal documents should reflect your core values.

Why do I say that?

Because I believe that good business leaders operate in integrity with their core values.

In general, we want everything that we DO to be aligned with our core values in our lives, and who we ARE as a person.

Because I’m an insatiably curious Gemini who loves a challenge, this summer I actually just finished earning a Certificate in Sustainable Business Strategy from Harvard Business School Online. It was all about creating a purpose-driven, sustainable business.

I took the course because I wanted to better understand how to be a purpose-driven leader in business and how to run a business in environmentally and socially sustainable ways. (It was one of the hardest, most intense courses I’ve ever taken…either that or it’s because it’s been DECADES since I’ve studied economics, that’s for sure!)

I learned SO MUCH through the course, but one of the key areas that really stood out to me is that part of living your purpose is living in alignment with your core values and your most important beliefs. You want to make sure your business policies also line up with them. How do you know what your core values are? How do you know if your biz policies line up with them? Tune into this week’s podcast episode. I share my own Top 10 Core Values as an example and I share tools so you can create your Top 10 Core Values list too.
