Someone asked me the other day how I became a Legal Coach®.  I realized I hadn’t really shared much publicly about my own story or my “big why”.

After law school, I landed a job at one of the top law firms in Ohio (let’s just say it came with a very generous paycheck).

I loved working with doctors and hospitals as a Health Care Lawyer, but it was a stressful “big firm” environment where I had NO time to go to the gym – and even LESS time to kiss boys!

All I did was work – and sustain myself on sugar and caffeine.  #notagoodplan

My body was begging me to get sunshine, my adrenal glands had crashed, and I knew there had to be more to life than sitting in an office with bad fluorescent lighting.

So I up and left my cushy job at the big law firm.

People thought I was NUTS!  There were eager, young lawyers shoving their resumes under partners’ doors every day just for a CHANCE to get a job at that prestigious law firm – and I just up and LEFT?

Yep!  That’s exactly what I did!

Determined to make some serious life changes (and break up with sugar and caffeine – not to mention get out and date again!), I worked with a Life Coach who helped me reconnect to my authentic self.

And much to my own surprise, I BECAME a Life Coach. #whowouldhaveguessed

I trained at CoachU—the school that birthed ‘life coaching’ and well-known coaches like Cheryl Richardson and Marie Forleo.

Life Coaching was great and I met my husband (yay!), but still something was missing. I still had a hard time shaking sugar, so in 2011 I enrolled in the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to learn more about food + mood, and I became a Health Coach.

I started my own successful Holistic Health and Life Coaching practice.

In my first year of Health Coaching alone, I gave over 50 paid corporate wellness seminars, worked with over 100 clients, and taught people to drink green smoothies, try kale, and lose weight. #lovedit

But, then something totally unexpected happened.

Other Health Coaches (who knew I was a lawyer) started to approach me for legal advice– and they were relieved to talk to an attorney who “got” them!

They said that most lawyers didn’t understand online business so they didn’t know who to turn to or how to get legally protected.

In early 2012, it was my private coach and mentor, Carey Peters of Holistic MBA, who REALLY encouraged me to combine my legal experience with coaching.

And in June of 2012, I switched gears and stepped into the light as a Legal Coach®.
