Let me tell you why…
One of my clients, a fabulous Health Coach (let’s just call her Jane), had a brilliant idea to create a business training program for other coaches. After years of experience, Jane knew exactly what other Health Coaches needed to learn to grow their businesses, share their work and expertise, and help their clients. Prior to that, Jane’s business was primarily focused on one-on-one work with clients.
When she put her first course out there, Jane didn’t even think of the special protections she would need. #howcouldsheknow
One of Jane’s participants purchased the program, used the content, and then demanded a refund, claiming simply that she “didn’t like it.”
Jane knew that her client had gotten results, so she was hurt and devastated. Unfortunately, Jane didn’t have a “Terms of Use,” for online purchases with a strong refund policy so she was out the money. She was frustrated, disappointed, and of course, she felt angry.
It creates negative energy to do something like that to an honest business owner like Jane who’s worked hard to create something special and super valuable! But, it happens more often than we would like.
And because Jane didn’t have her policies clearly spelled out IN WRITING to fall back on, her policies were vague to her client and her energetic boundaries around money were fuzzy.
No wonder she had a huge money leak without a well-defined refund policy in place that her clients agreed to BEFORE they purchased her program. #lighbulbmoment
After that experience, Jane came to me to put a solid “Terms of Use” in place for her program so there wouldn’t be any more future situations like that where a client demanded a refund or refused to pay her. #smartmove
